Welcome to Best Bar None Jersey

Best Bar None is a recognised award scheme supported by the Home Office and aimed at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol-licensed premises. It was developed and piloted in Manchester in 2003 and found to be a huge success with premises now competing to participate.

2008 is a great year for Jersey, Best Bar None is being launched in conjunction with the BII, Smirnoff (JJ Le Sueur), VK Kick and being supported by Safer St Helier.

Best Bar None aims to reward licensees who provide good management, a safe and enjoyable environment for customers, discourage binge drinking and prevent alcohol-related crime. It encourages licensees to act responsibly and take pride in their premises and surroundings and, in doing so, put something back into the Town and their local community. The rewards for licensees include, the prestige of being part of the awards scheme, increased business within the area and lower insurance premiums resulting from the fact that they are running safer establishments.

The biggest winners in Best Bar None are the visitors to Jersey, who are able to reap the rewards of a Town Centre that is more welcoming, attractive, lively and above all safe.

Best Bar None Award:
This is a partnership initiative between local pubs and clubs, the States of Jersey Police, the British Institute of Innkeepers (BII) and SSHCP. The Best Bar None is an awards scheme for licensed premises, currently running in over 80 locations across
the UK.

The aim of the scheme is to promote responsible management of licensed premises and in doing so, recognise and reward good practice. The scheme aims to reward venues that are well managed and that take customer safety seriously. The scheme is voluntary and requires active participation on the part of the licensee in completing a standard application booklet. Once completed, the venue will be judged by independent assessors based around certain criteria, i.e. public safety issues, prevention of crime and disorder, and so on.

The Awards are based on core national standards with local flexibility to ensure they address local needs.
The scheme was launched in Jersey in August 2008 along with NITENET™ and the SSHCP are sponsoring the training of Best Bar None assessors through a local BII training scheme.
